Vizag Summit: 1,500 Delegates from 37 Nations to Participate

New Delhi, Jan 7 (PTI) As many as 1,500 domestic and foreign delegates from 37 countries including the US, UK and China will participate in the three-day partnership summit in Visakhapatnam.

"This summit is very important. We are looking at India being the bright spot in the global growth story and this growth is possible only with the states contributing to it," Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told reporters here today.

 

Sitharaman will Chair this summit, which is started from January 10.

Andhra Pradesh is doing a lot of work to attract domestic and global investors, she said adding investors from countries like Japan and China have shown keen interest to invest in the state.

Speaking at the occasion, DIPP Secretary Amitabh Kant said that the centre is working with the state in terms of national manufacturing and investment zones and industrial corridors.

"We want Andhra Pradesh to become the key driver of growth. If the state will grow at high rates, India will also grow," Kant said.

He informed that as many as 200 experts from different field and 300 foreign delegates will participate in the event.

CII, the organiser of the summit, said that there will be sessions on Make in India and manufacturing among several others.

"As many as 200 MoUs are expected to be signed by domestic and foreign companies during the meet," CII Director general Chandrajit Banerjee said.

The theme of the summit is - 'Partnership for a Shared and Sustainable World Economy'.

Union Ministers who are expected to participate in the event include Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Power Minister Piyush Goyal and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar.

Representatives from global agencies such as World Trade Organisation and International Labour Organisation and OECD would also attend it besides Chairman Godre Group Adi Godrej, CMD Bharat Forge baba Kalyani and Walmart India CEO Krish Iyer.

Delegates from countries including Pakistan, Australia, Canada, germany, France, Norway and Switzerland would attend the meet.
