New Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed died of bone marrow dysfunction and not because of multiple organ failure as his family members said earlier, an official said.
"He died due to bone marrow dysfunction," AIIMS spokesperson Amit Gupta told IANS.
Red blood cells stop forming due to failure of bone marrow.
Gupta said Sayeed was "severely diabetic" and suffering from respiratory infection which increased over the last days. "This aggravated the problem."
He said doctors tried to revive his heartbeat around 8 a.m. on Thursday but his heartbeat "had became almost nil".
Sayeed was admitted to AIIMS on December 24.
