Right Poll Strategy Would Be Chalked Out: Jayalalithaa

Chennai, Dec 31 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, who is also AIADMK general secretary, on Thursday said here she would decide on the right strategy for the ensuing assembly elections.

Speaking at the party's general council meeting, where Jayalalithaa was authorised to take decisions relating to next year's assembly elections, she said different strategies have to be chalked out to fight different elections.

She would take a correct decision to fight the ensuing assembly elections, the chief minister said.

"There is no uniform strategy to win elections."

Jayalalithaa said to win elections different strategies have to be followed, and urged the party cadres to work hard so that the AIADMK can come back to power.

She said the party fought the 2011 assembly elections aligning with some parties and in the 2014 general elections the party stood on its own and won 37 Lok Saba seats.

The AIADMK party has formed the government in the state six times - three times under the party founder late M.G. Ramachandran and three times under her, Jayalalithaa noted.

Earlier at the general council meeting, the party passed several resolutions, including giving Jayalalithaa the sole power to decide on the electoral strategy and urging the central government to release flood relief funds.

The party also urged the central government to issue an ordinance to allow bull-taming game Jallikattu in the state and to take steps to prevent the harassment of fishermen from the state by the Sri Lankan forces.
