Dhaka, Dec 31 (IANS) A Bangladesh court on Thursday sentenced two people to death for the February 2013 murder of blogger and activist Ahmed Rajib Haider.
The court pronounced various prison terms for six others including Mufti Jasim Uddin Rahmani, chief of Ansarullah Bangla -- an Islamic extremist organization suspected of carrying out the attack, bdnews24 reported.
Rahmani has been named the "instigator" in the case.
Haider, an architect by profession, was hacked to death on February 15, 2013, in capital Dhakas Mirpur area.
Police investigation found that religious fanatics had murdered him.
Five more secular bloggers and writers were killed in Bangladesh in 2015.
Haider was among a group of bloggers who had called for the execution of Islamist leaders for crimes committed during the 1971 Liberation War.
