Noida, Dec 31 (PTI) After a near-washout of the winter session of Rajya Sabha where the GST bill is still stuck, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today attacked Congress yet again and asked the party to take a New Year resolution to allow Parliament to function for the sake of development.
Having "enjoyed power" for over six decades, he contended that Congress has no right to destroy the functioning of Parliament for "political reasons" and hold back the country's development.
Modi was addressing a rally here after unveiling a plaque to mark the laying of the foundation stone of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway to be built at cost of Rs 7,566 crore that includes construction of 28-km long 14-lane Delhi-Dasna section. He called it the "highway of development".
"I specially request them. Tomorrow is January 1. When you are celebrating New Year today, please also take a vow that you will not put hurdles in the functioning of Parliament any more, will allow Parliament to run, allow to the nation to move forward, will let it take decisions for the welfare of the poor people of the country and create opportunities for employment of the youths.," he said addressing the public on the last day of 2015.
The Prime Minister said that his government was making attempts to to take one after another step for the poor.
"There are some old laws, which have become obsolete keeping in mind the welfare of the poor and the economic development of the country. It has become necessary to bring new laws on many issues.
"This is the misfortune of the country that Parliament of India, where laws are made is not allowed to function now.
Those who have been rejected by people have kept Parliament in a seige. They do not allow Parliament to run," Modi said.
