Driver Killed in Car Collision Involving US Secret Service

Washington, Dec 30 (IANS) A driver was killed in the northern US state of New Hampshire in a car collision involving four Secret Service agents, media reported on Wednesday.

The accident took place on Tuesday night on the highway Route 16 in Wakefield, Xinhua reported citing US media.

The driver's northbound car, a Mercury Sable, crossed a double yellow solid centre line and crashed head-on into a Ford Taurus heading south with four on-duty Secret Service agents on board, according to the reports.

The driver, identified as 45-year-old Bruce Danforth, died on the scene while the four agents suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The agents, together with two passengers on the Sable, were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The agents were believed to be on duty to protect the safety of Hillary Clinton, the leading Democratic candidate for the 2016 presidential elections.

Clinton was holding a town hall meeting on Tuesday night with voters in Berlin, north of Wakefield.

The Secret Service is responsible for protecting the safety of the president and their families, and of the leading presidential candidates.
