New Delhi, Dec 28 (IANS) In a tragic incident, a five-year-old boy was burnt to death on Monday as fire engulfed the room where he had been left alone while his mother went to get back her daughter from her school, police said.
The incident occurred around 1.30 p.m. in Govindpuri area in south Delhi.
Police said that Aashu was alone at the rented third-floor one-room set where the fire broke out.
"Aashu's mother had locked the house and went to take her daughter from her school. The victim's father was also on work when the fire broke out," said a police official.
The official said that neighbours could not save the child as the door of the house was locked from outside. "The fire officials broke open the door after they received the fire call."
"The boy was rushed to Safdarjung hospital where doctors declared him brought dead with burn injuries," said the official, adding the reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained.
