Jagan’s Party to Move No-Confidence Motion Against AP Speaker

Hyderabad, Dec 22 (PTI) The Opposition YSR Congress today decided to move a no-confidence motion against Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker K Siva Prasada Rao for allegedly not conducting House proceedings in a fair manner.

"The legislature party, which met here today, has decided to move a no-confidence motion against the Speaker as the way the Assembly proceedings were conducted were not impartial and were one-sided," deputy floor leader of YSRCP Jyothula Nehru told reporters here.

The notice against the Speaker would be served tomorrow, he said.

"Our party has taken strong objection to the style of functioning of the Speaker and we have to take the unfortunate decision to move the no-confidence motion.

"We earlier also thought of moving the motion but gave a second thought assuming the proceedings would go on smoothly but things did not improve and went from bad to worse," he said.

The YSRCP was pressing to raise the issue of "call money racket" in the House but the treasury benches were hell bent on not bringing up the matter and had tried many ways to stall it, Nehru alleged.

While Legislative Affairs Minister Y Ramakrishnudu had moved a motion to suspend a member for one day, the Speaker made it two days, he alleged.

In the other case of suspension of YSR Congress member R K Roja, who was asked to raise the issue of "call money racket, the Speaker went beyond rule, Nehru claimed.

"The Speaker went beyond the frame of the quoted rule no 340 sub-clause (2), which clearly says a member can be suspended only to the extent of the ongoing session. She was suspended for one year."

The Speaker allowing incessant interruptions when the Leader of Opposition YS Jaganmohan Reddy was speaking is not in the democratic spirit, the YSRCP leader added.
