Trinamool Removes Leader from All Posts After CBI Grilling

Kolkata, Dec 14 (IANS) Hours after he was quizzed by the CBI for the second time in connection with the multi-crore-rupee chit fund scam, the Trinamool Congress on Monday night removed party general secretary Shankudeb Panda from all posts.

Panda, a former chief of the party's students wing Trinamool Chhatra Parishad, was grilled for an hour by Central Bureau of Investigation sleuths at their Salt Lake office.

Panda, who was earlier attached with the Saradha group as a journalist, appeared before the probe agency office for the second time this month.

On December 2 also, he was questioned about his involvement with the Saradha group by the CBI, which is probing the scandal.

In December last year, the journalist-turned-politician was grilled by the Enforcement Directorate which too is probing the scam in which several Trinamool leaders have been indicted.

Former state transport minister and senior Trinamool leader Madan Mitra is currently in custody for his alleged complicity in the scam.

A Trinamool leader said Panda was removed from all posts to facilitate an impartial probe into his alleged involvement in the scam.

Panda did not make any comment on the action taken against him.

Meanwhile, the CBI conducted search operations at 20 places as part of its probe against a company in connection with the scam.

The searches were carried out at 18 locations in West Bengal, and one each in Jharkhand and Odisha.
