The Andhra Pradesh secretariat will be the first building to come up in Amaravati with construction work likely to begin by June 2016 and first phase to be completed by December 2018.
According to the Times of India, the building is expected to have about 40 floors and spread over about 500 acres. The structure is expected to come up near Lingayapalem village in the capital city area. The first phase of construction would require nearly Rs 3,000 crore and the state government might seek the entire amount from the Centre as part of the assurances made in the AP Reorganisation Act.
Naidu is also reported to have said at a meeting of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) that Indian architects would be roped in for designing the Secretariat and Raj Bhavan while adding that The 16.5 km long road to the building should comply with international standards as it would be the first construction in Amaravati.
This comes even as the chief minister said that shifting of Secretariat employees from Hyderabad to the capital region is inevitable and non-negotiable.
The building is also important as it would be a shot in the arm for chief minister Chandrababu Naidu ahead of the next general elections.
"It is a challenging task as we have set December 2018 as the deadline to complete the first phase of work. We want to complete it much before the deadline," TOI quotes Ajay Jain, secretary to the government on CRDA as saying.
