Hyderabad, Nov 27 (IANS) Hyderabad attracted about Rs.1,000 crore investment in aerospace and defence during last one year and is looking at the investment of another Rs.2,500 crore with setting up of three aerospace parks in next four years, a state government official said on Friday.
Bharat Forge plans to invest about Rs.500 crore in major defence based activity in the city, which aims to emerge as the hub of aerospace and defence in two years, Industry and Commerce Secretary Arvind Kumar told reporters, adding the Pune-based multinational has sought 40 acres of lands for their units in joint venture with a global major.
It is taking 10 acres land in the existing aerospace Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Adibatla and the other 30 acres are being allotted at another location, he said.
Another aerospace firm Voith plans to invest Rs.100 crore in Hyderabad. It is shifting its base from Chennai and has already started setting up its unit at Adibatla SEZ.
According to the official, the joint venture between Tatas and Boeing for manufacturing of aerostructures for Apache helicopters will involve an investment of roughly Rs.200 crore.
Tata Advances Systems Ltd (TASL), which announced the JV with Boeing early this month, has sought 8.5 acres of land in Adibatla SEZ for building the unit.
Telangana State Industrial Investment Corporation ice chairman and managing director E. Venkat Narasimha Reddy, said another 20 acres of land was set aside in the SEZ for TASL for its future projects.
TASL already has four joint ventures at this SEZ with companies like Sikorsky, Lockheed Martin and Pilatus.
The government plans to develop second aerospace SEZ over 500 acres at Elimenidu near Adibatla. Two other hubs will come up depending on the demand.
Arvind Kumar also announced that they plan to set up aviation training academy at the old airport at Begumpet in collaboration with Bordeaux metropole of France.
Talks in this regard will be held with officials of Bordeaux Aeronautics during the second defence and aerosupply India, a three day conclave beginning in Hyderabad on November 29.
Global giants including Boeing and Airbus and countries like Israel and France will be attending the conclave which will focus on next gen technology, innovation and skill development.
Arvind Kumar said that based on the deliberations during the event, the Telangana government will work out its policy for aerospace and defence. The same will be announced during the Aeroshow scheduled to be held in Hyderabad in March next year.
