Andhra Seeks Rs.1,000 Crore from Centre as Rain Relief

Hyderabad, Nov 19 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh has sought an immediate financial assistance of Rs.1,000 crore for relief and restoration in rain-affected districts.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said tentative assessment has put the loss at Rs.3,000 crore.

Naidu sought the release of Rs.1,000 crore as advance for immediate relief measures.

Giving details of the damage, Naidu said 35 people were killed due to heavy rains that lashed Nellore, Chittoor and Kadapa districts from November 9 to 12 and again from November 15 to 19.

Naidu apprised Modi that rains caused extensive damage to crops and infrastructure.

As many as 613 cattle were killed and 146 villages affected. The letter said 467 houses were completely damaged while there was partial damage to 2,029 houses.

Crops in over two lakh hectares were damaged. Roads up to a length of 1,865 km were also affected.
