Gangi Reddy Arrested

Gangi Reddy ArrestedSandalwood smuggler Kollam Gangi Reddy, an accused in an attack on chief minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at Alipiri in Chittoor in 2003, was brought from Mauritius to Hyderabad by a team of police officers led by the Additional Director-General of Andhra CID Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao on Sunday.

The CID officials arrived at Shamshabad airport at Hyderabad on Sunday morning. Andhra Pradesh Director-General of Police J.V. Ramudu will present Gangi Reddy before the media at Hyderabad at 3 p.m. on Sunday. He would be brought to Kurnool and produced in court on Sunday night or Monday, according to sources.

A native of Vathalur in Pullampet mandal in Kadapa district, Gangi Reddy was arrested by Interpol officials at Mauritius in February this year, on a red corner notice issued on a warrant issued by Dhone magistrate court after he jumped bail on May 16 last year and fled India. The State Government had subsequently transferred several cases of red sanders smuggling booked against Gangi Reddy in Kurnool and Kadapa districts to the CBI.

 

Gangi Reddy maintains his innocence and he claims he was not absconding from the country and was just outside for business reasons.
