The Congress high command has decided on the name of the candidate for Warangal Lok Sabha by elections slated to be held on November 21, according to sources. The speculation is rife that it has chosen G Vivek as the party candidate.
TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy who went to Delhi with a list of probable names is believed to be backing the candidature of former MP, G Vivek. Â The leadership feels that he wields a good rapport with the national leadership and hence despite the initial reservations expressed by him, the State leadership is said to have told the high command that he would be the best choice.
It may be mentioned here that the TRS had till recently tried its best to rope in Vivek into the party. The TRS in-charge for Warangal elections T Harish Rao played a key role in trying to convince Vivek but could not succeed. The party feels that apart from being a strong candidate, Vivek can also take care of the expenditure part and thereby reduce its financial burden.
The other top Congress contenders were former MPs Sircilla Rajaiah, Sarvey Satyanarayana, former TRS leader G Vijaya Rama Rao and local leaders Rajarapu Pratap and B Arogyam both from Station Ghanpur. Sircilla Rajaiah being the only local heavy weight is backed by former MP Madhu Yashki and former TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah who believes that the local factor would help him win the election. Former Union minister Sarvey Satyanarayana also threw his hat into the ring.
