Domestic handset-vendor Lava will invest Rs.500 crore to set up a manufacturing plant in 20 acres in Tirupati.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation for a mobile manufacturing and electronics hub in Tirupati. This facility will house Lava and other brands like Micromax, Celkon and Karbonn.
The manufacturing plant of Lava will be operational in 2017 and the target production capacity of 5 million phones a month once it is fully functional. The facility will generate employment for 12,000 people.
This development is an important milestone in Lava's journey and will help deliver on the promise to empower people to do more and be more by generating employment and imparting skills, said the company's international chief manufacturing officer Sanjeev Agarwal.
